This is one garment I wasn’t expecting to make! I never thought much about the Deer and Doe Myosotis Dress pattern but I recently saw a couple versions I really liked on Instagram. I kind of had the pattern in the back of mind since then. I went to New York with my friends Jess and Hannah for another garment district shopping trip last month. When I was at Mood, I spotted this white cotton with embroidered flowers.  I figured I’d find something to make with it so I bought 2 yards. I didn’t immediately think about this dress but the next day I realized this fabric would be perfect! I thought I didn’t buy enough according to the pattern envelope and was so disappointed. My friend Jess even went back to get me another yard but it sold out in a couple days! The guy said it had been there 10 years. What are the odds? I decided to buy the pattern and lay it out anyway. I actually had just enough! The only piece I omitted was the pockets because this fabric is slightly sheer. I have to wear this over a slip.

I had no trouble sewing this up. I made it in one day. I think the fit is good. I was one size in my bust and a larger size in my waist. I ended up just cutting the size for my bust and was fine because this dress is loose fitting. I could consider grading out to a larger waist size next time.

I think this is the perfect spring/ summer dress. It’s so light and airy. I’m just so thrilled with how this turned out. I love the Deer and Doe patterns I have tried and this one is definitely another keeper! Also, how beautiful is this tree in my backyard?! I’ve lived here 4 springs and don’t recall it ever looking this good!

Shorts Part 3 (Deer and Doe Goji)

This is the last post in my shorts series! These Deer and Doe shorts are so comfy. I know I’m going to wear them a lot in the summer heat.

Pattern: Deer and Doe Goji Shorts I made the shorts with paperbag waist. There is also a skirt and simple waist band.

Were they easy to make? Yes!

Pattern Adjustments? I made no adjustments.

Fit? I made the smallest size. They fit but I think they are slightly big.

Fabric choice? I used a light blue linen blend from Jo Anns. I chose a blend so they won’t wrinkle as easily as just linen

Anything to watch out for? Nope! The waistband was the most time consuming part, though.

Would you make it again? Yes! I would love to make the skirt.

Shorts Part 2 (Deer and Doe Chataigne)

I’m back for part two of my shorts series! I really love these Deer and Doe Chataigne shorts. A super high waist, front pockets (the back ones are faux) and scalloped details make them a winner for me. I paired them with a floral tee shirt I found thrifting but they could definitely be dressed up too with a blouse.

Pattern: Deer and Doe Chataigne Shorts I made Version B with the high waist and scalloped trim. Version A has a regular waist and cuffs.

Were they easy to make? Yes! The instructions were easy to follow. I definitely think this pattern is for a more experienced sewer though, with the invisible zipper and scallop detail.

Pattern Adjustments? I made no adjustments.

Fit? I made the smallest size and the fit is perfect for me.

Fabric choice? I used a twill fabric from Jo Ann’s. I’ve been loving this color lately!

Anything to watch out for? I made a silly mistake. You are supposed to trace the scallops on the facing to stitch along the lines but I cut them out. I didn’t have enough fabric left to recut/trace on the facing so I used a floral cotton. It ended up being a happy mistake because I love little details like that. That’s what’s so great about making your own clothes!

Would you make it again? Yes!

I will be back on Monday with the final pair of shorts in my series. I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Deer and Doe Ondee

img_5313.jpg

Hello! I finally got some sewing done this past weekend. I made all three things I planned on making so I was definitely productive! One of the things I made was this top. It’s the Ondee sweater by Deer and Doe. It’s my first pattern from this company and I am very happy with it. It came together very quickly and the instructions were easy to follow. I made the long sleeve version with collar but there are also options for short sleeve and no collar.

I found this soft knit at Joanns that has stripes on one side and polka dots on the other. I thought it would be fun to mix patterns for this top. I noticed this fabric also comes in black and white. I am definitely thinking about picking some up for another project. I’m getting more and more comfortable sewing knits. I recently started using a walking foot on my machine when I sew knits and it has made all the difference!
